As the water heats, it rises to the top of the device and exits through the hot water outlet pipe. Note that the hot water outlet pipe is much shorter than the immersion pipe because it aims to extract the hottest water at the top of the tank.

Main Components of Gas Water Heaters

The main components of gas water heaters are:

• Heat Exchanger
  One component of gas water heaters, made from aluminum sheets, with copper pipes coiled around it.
• Aluminum Fins
  These fins are placed in a network inside the gas water heater through which copper pipes pass, transferring heat from the burner flame to the water in the pipes.
• Burner
  The flame of the gas water heater is produced inside the burner, usually with 14 to 18 nozzles.
• Spark Electrode
  The spark electrode converts 220V electricity to 12,000V to produce a spark at the electrode tip.
• Flue Cap
  The flue cap at the top of the water heater directs combustion products to the chimney. For optimal performance, the chimney should be standard with minimal bends.
• Main Heat Exchanger
  Transfers heat from the flame to the water.
